EDUCATION JUSTICE PROGRAMME
The Right to Education is a fundamental human right enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and various regional and international Human Rights Treaties. However, many children in Kenya still lack access to free, compulsory, and high-quality basic education.
To address this gap, the Education Justice Programme (EJP) is committed to realizing the Right to Education in Kenya. We seek to implement projects that promote fair and equitable access to education for all, including free basic and compulsory education, with a particular focus on marginalized, poor, and vulnerable groups facing educational barriers.
We tackle critical challenges within the education sector, such as inadequate financial resources, human rights violations by private entities, policy gaps, and the impact of climate change and gender disparities on education.
The EJP targets Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education, and Adult and Continuing Education, employing a Human Rights-Based Approach throughout our initiatives.
Aligned with the core principles of the Right to Education, the EJP emphasizes four crucial dimensions:
- Availability: Ensuring sufficient schools and resources are accessible, and public education receives adequate funding.
- Accessibility: Removing discrimination barriers, addressing physical and economic challenges to education access.
- Acceptability: Providing culturally relevant and high-quality education, including suitable curricula and teaching methods.
- Adaptability: Developing a flexible education system capable of meeting diverse community and student needs in various social and cultural contexts.
